Turn it around?

Hey there..Let’s check in. How ya doin? Really, how ya doin? As we begin May 2022 (I know it’s annoying when people constantly remind you of the calendar right?) take a temperature about how this year is unfolding for you..

We start the fifth month (there I go again) and the answer to that question can go a number of different ways, ranging from:

“Fantastic, I can hardly believe how much success I am having in so many areas of my life.” RUN NOW!

Or

”To be honest, I’m struggling, I thought things would be easier.”

I don’t know about you, but of the two respondents, I'm definitely having tea with guy or gal #2. We all have those “thin places.” The times when efforts fall flat, plans dissolve, outcomes are less than we’d like, disappointments add up. And our moods like to be fed. So we look around for more evidence to justify our emotions. Am I right?

I get there as well, and that’s why I like that I have my WORD for the year.. FLOWtell me you remember? Well regardless, when I do find myself out of sorts, I try to get to the bottom of whatever issue there is. I process the feelings that come up, and then I get to my formula to nudge myself back to FLOW. I have found these eight steps to kick off the gloom and start some forward momentum, I mean FLOW! They are:

  • Awareness- Take a minute to check in, ask “what’s up here” I say it in kind tones so I don’t snap at myself…..If you’ve been reading my emails for a while, you already know I talk to myself.

  • Alignment- Determine what thoughts are not a good indicator as to where I see myself going when I am at my best.

  • Decide- How much time to spend here, be curious, and make an exit plan.

  • Pivot- Focus on what it'll take to head in a more helpful direction.

  • Do The Next Thing- Just one thing, then the next, you see where I'm going.

  • Evaluate- ONLY after steps 1-5 are completed. I don't evaluate while I'm still in the quagmire, the view can be cloudy.

  • Adjust- Fine tune your momentum to what's working, it's a game changer.

  • Repeat- As necessary, every time.

I like the quote I’ve heard bandied about (what’s bandied anyway?) I’m just sorry I don’t know the author, “Happiness is an inside job”. Did you know that? Think about it, when you possess the skills and steps to transform your outcomes, happiness really is an inside job. Proud of you!

I can help walk you through the process and what to watch out for when your mind starts to act like a toddler with scissors… Just needs a little supervision and good direction, I've got you!

Grateful for you,

Anne
