Reset
Theme for May is transformation, and where better to start than reset?
Sometimes I coach clients filled with regret.
They feel responsible for something that happened in the past. Sometimes a long time ago.
They talk about it as if it happened yesterday. They wish it was different or they were different.
Thinking and worrying about it as if they could change the outcome. They never will.
I’ve experienced this too, but here’s what I’ve decided. I hope it helps.
The past is gone, and the only thing that makes it real now is the way we think about the past now.
It’s true, things might have gone better had you known better, but you didn’t back then.
The real problem isn’t any of those things, it’s what we make it mean now.
You can make it mean you're a horrible, small person, with lousy character or you can make it mean you had a human experience.
You can make it mean that your life might have been different without all of this angst, or you can make it mean that struggling sometimes has a place in our journey. It does. It’s where all the growth happens.
Learn how to reset and reclaim. Get good at it. The happiest people I know are experts here.
You can make the past mean whatever you want. But make sure you love your reasons for choosing those thoughts, because those thoughts are going to dictate how you go forward.
Choose carefully.
