Half empty or full? Optimist or pessimist?

We’ve all heard the term “rose colored glasses” right? It refers to one who tends to see the world in a favorable hue. What is wrong with those people I ask you? Don’t they acknowledge the trouble in this world? Don’t they know better?

It’s really tempting to add up all the valid reasons to be in despair these days. And you wouldn’t be wrong. You could make an eloquent case for feeling anger and grief for many inequities, just get a dose of Facebook. Feel better? What will you do with that despair? How does it manifest in your life? I lovingly suggest those emotions are costly.

Previously I spoke of quotes that inspire. Ready?

  • “The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.” - Captain Jack Sparrow, The Pirates of the Caribbean

  • Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. Because the world needs more people to come alive.” - Dr. Jane Mahoney.

People who have the strength and resilience to be optimistic inhabit their lives boldly and fully. I love being around them. They are not in denial with their head in the sand (get it? sand?) They know the power of intention and they harness it. They are curious, living in a way that reveals their future holding great promise and adventure.

Optimist or pessimist, where do you land? Doesn’t it make sense to look for thoughts that create hope and brightness instead of soul-crushing dread? Here are some of my optimism “hacks.”

  • Hang out with children (NOT adults who act like children, there’s a difference.) “When I grow up, I’m gonna be a pilot and a surgeon and a movie star.”

  • Stop waiting for the perfect time to do that next thing. Go!

  • Say thank you as often as you can, look for reasons to say it.

  • Focus on controlling only you. Controlling others isn't available, never was.

  • Be careful of what you makes things mean. Own that option.

Let me help you look at the possibilities you can manifest. It’s all upside from here. (Yup, I’m an optimist.)

Grateful for you,

Anne
