5 Things I Wish I Learned Earlier

I took myself on a walk and instead of my usual Podcast, I just let my mind wander. Do you ever do that? I am trying to unplug more these days. It’s a nice treat! Turns out, I’m pretty good company!

So, my mind left unsupervised, (always a little risky!) was playing with different ideas. I came up with five things I wish I had learned earlier in life. Sounds a little dramatic, but honestly I write this from a grateful heart. Grateful I DID learn them, and so glad to share with you now.

Some of the most challenging people in my life have been my greatest teachers.  As I think of it, I can look back at those relationships, (whether work or home) those that gave me the most “heartburn” brought about the circumstances from which I grew the most.

  1. My happiness is my job I realized that taking responsibility for my own happiness, growth and fulfillment is an inside job.  Waiting for anyone else  to “complete me”  (remember that line by Tom Cruise in the movie Jerry McGuire? barf!) means I come to relationships as needy , lacking and wanting. Not a good look. AND that could be a long wait!

  2. There is no hurry. There is no rush. I am not behind, I can take my own pace and do it (fill in the blank, business, projects, tough conversations, goals, family plans, etc) the “Anne way.”  Slowing down and calming the urge to “get it done” allows for perspective and abundance, instead of scarcity.

  3. Growth begins when your comfort ends. I’ve shared this one before, but it’s a goodie.  “Feeling terrible, and being willing to be in that space (see #3 above) is what gives you the confidence and strength to let it go… when you deny it, resist it, it doesn’t work.”- Brooke Castillo

  4. People won’t always show up for you the way you want them to…they’re still good people. This one took so much weight off of my shoulders, a true “ah ha” moment. Acceptance, compassion and curiosity are so life giving. Holding a grudge, judgment, and victimhood are exhausting. Let it go and take flight!

What about you? What are the most valuable lessons you have cultivated in this life so far? How have you made them “wins” for you? Hit reply and share them with me, I love to learn from you as well!
