Why Coaching Works
“So what kind of program are you in?” I got that wonderful question from a reader the other day. She was referred by a friend, has been reading this weekly column, and was finding them helpful for her own life (can I just say AMEN! I LOVE to hear that!) But what she didn’t know is that all of the ideas, emotions, concepts and struggles that I write about are helped with life coaching.
It’s what I do. I found coaching for myself years ago. I gained some awareness and perspective on my own struggles and began to build a skill set to handle them. Once I figured that part out, life just got a little better bit by bit, and continues to today. Don’t get me wrong, struggles still appear, and I trip and fall sometimes. Now I get myself up with the knowledge and the confidence that I have everything I need to get to the other side. Without doubt.

It should be said that a life coach is not a substitute for a practitioner who will treat acute mental disorders, diseases and severe traumas. Consult a licensed therapist for help there.
Not unlike a sports coach who works with an athlete to define, train and strategize their performance, a life coach works with clients to analyze where they are, where they want to be and what needs to happen to get there.
Coaching is about healthy people and making their good lives even better. Read it again! It centers around the concepts of wellness and growth. I always say, clients don’t “get” life coaching, they “do” life coaching.
In my practice I work with clients one on one. We meet over Zoom or phone. Over the course of time we get what needs to be said, said; known, known; celebrated, celebrated; and sometimes forgiven, forgiven. Lightness, clarity and momentum. Many clients come to me and say,”I feel stuck.” I reply, step right up, let’s get you going.
Coaching enhances relationships, confidence, decisions, happiness, manages stress, provides clarity, works on goals and habits. We understand what’s missing and go about putting it all together. For Good!
